CHIRON-Quarterly journal of the Australian Holistic Veterinarians featuring book reviews, local news, case reports, feature articles on modalities. AAVA-Australian Association of Veterinary Acupuncture produces a quarterly newsletter with case reports, book reviews and member information.
Magazines
WELLBEING- regular magazine available most newsagents; sometimes good articles; good directory of practitioners and Diploma / Certificate courses at the back.
NATURE AND HEALTH- articles usually not very in depth, but good background; again good directory at the back (often the same people as in Wellbeing).
LIVING NOW-(VIC & NSW): free newspaper format from health shops, organic shops, new age shops; good articles and directory but great for keeping an eye out for local and inexpensive workshops and networking (avail Vic only exc by subscription).
CONSCIOUS LIVING- WA based magazine in most newsagents – similar format to Nature & Health / Wellbeing but local for WA ‘ites (avail Australia wide).
Books
VIBRATIONAL HEALING – New choices for healing ourselves. Richard Gerber MD 1996 Bear & Co about $35. Great explanation of physics and philosophy of vibrational medicine. Probably in most new age bookshops.
The Science of Homoeopathy. George Vithoulkas 1980 Jain Publishers Esp Section 1: The Laws and Principles of Cure (relevent to all modalities not just homoeopathy) Martin & Pleasance.
Heal Thyself. Edward Bach $5 from Martin & Pleasance. Dr Bachs philosophy on healing – very small book and easy to read. Natural Health for Dogs and Cats. Richard Pitcairn, Rodale 1995. Good especially for nutrition and overall on many modalities. New age bookshops eg TS Bookshop Melb; Aquarian Bookshop Brisbane.
Natural Healing for Dogs and Cats. Diane Stein. The Crossing Press 1994. New age bookshops. Again good coverage of many modalities in easy to look up sections. Some bits better than others but very useful for reference.
Materia Medica. Boericke. Indian edition is $25 from Martin & Pleasance. Describes the effects of each homoeopathic remedy in detail.
Homoeopathy for Dogs and Cats, Chris Day. From Martin & Pleasance. Great conversational book for intro into homoeopathy for small animals. $22
George Macleod has written many homoeopathic books – more direct style than Chris Days – includes repertory within each section. Also from Martin & Pleasance - $15-20 for titles from dogs, cats, goats, horses and cattle.
Four Paws and Five Directions, Cheryl Schwartz from Acuneeds $60, good basic Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupressure points.
Complementary and Alternative Medicine Principles and Practice, Allan Schoen & Susan Wynn, $150 from Acuneeds – overall view of complementary medicine.
